Dead Malls | Enfield Square Mall

In the age of the internet brick and mortar stores are anything but safe, this year the United States has seen an unprecedented number of closing of stores by retailers such as Sears, JCPenny and Macy's. The Enfield Mall is a prime example of this although this 788,000 square foot mall has not had the best luck over the years. Opening in 1971 it boasted stores such as G. Fox, Filene's and Steigers. Steigers closed its doors in 1994 and the space went unoccupied until 1997 with the addition of Sears. JCPenny shut its doors in 2000 and was replaced by a Macy's Mens and Home store. The begining of 2016 is when the mall went into an absolute free fall, Macy's made the announcement they would be closing its two anchor stores in the mall. Not a month later in February J.P Morgan Chase foreclosed on the mall as the owner defaulted on a $240 Million dollar loan. Over the next year smaller stores began to shutter in the mall along with Ruby Tuesday and Express. And then in 2017 after 20 years Sears shut its doors leaving Target as the malls lone anchor store.

Update 11/17/2018: On December 10th 2018 the Mall is scheduled to go up for auction on 10-X.com with a starting bid of $3.8 Million.

  1. This would be a perfect time to start a flea market inside the mall if people remember in the seventies and eighties the first Enfield Mall which now is a strip mall that houses Barnes & Noble Bob's and other stores hosted

a flea market for a number of years and it was highly successful I think we should bring it back to the second enField mall now

    3. ^ Why, because you'd have to go to work? Trying to keep Enfield on that Waterbury type path? Lazy fuck.

  3. my favorite store was called MY SISTER'S CLOSET but that might have been at the old mall. such a shame to loose such a nice shopping center so close to home.

  4. Talk to Apple give them big discount on rent. Apple would be a big draw. Or knock it down except Target, movies, and Panera bread then build a Lowe's. The home Depot Enfield sucks.

  5. I think Lord and Taylor should of been added to the Enfield Square Mall.

    1. Enfield and environs population aren't the demographic Lord & Taylor is looking at. That's why they are in West Farms.

  7. I used to love this mall!! I have been living in the area all my life. Unfortunately, no store (aside from a Walmart or Target) is going to survive there. Today, my G.Fox is Amazon. We all shop that way. The only thing that could survive in the place are service driven businesses. Turn the stores into offices and build a few decent reasonable semi sit-down restaurants for lunch goers. The town, and the space would flourish.

  8. Some of the empty spaces should be turned into more indoor activities go karts, bowling, etc. A Trader Joes, small shops and eating places the big stores for buying clothes is over people shop online or go to the other malls

  9. Just came across this site. Had no idea Enfield Square was closed. It was the first mall I ever knew of. Went there a lot in my teens and 20s when it was the bomb! Times have changed.

  10. They're all going to Holyoke, Buckland Hills or Westfarms. In this age of online shopping and such, only the strong will survive, and those 3 are doing well.

    1. Actually Buckland is on the same path as Enfield, all these hokey ass stores and big stores moving out.

  16. I stopped there a few weeks ago at night to go to target and decided to walk around the mall. Oh my, it was creepy. Great place to film a scary movie!!! It's sad. They should get a new owner.

  17. I loved the old flea market. That's a good idea. My favorite store here was Waldenbooks. It was still open when my kids were little because there was a Harry Potter midnight event that I took them too. Makes me sad.

  18. A flea market would work. There's a dead mall in Cinicinnati that has a kids play place with inflatables (bouncy castle, inflatable basketball ball with trampolines to jump around, giant slide), as well as a food place, gym mats for gymnastics (includes a balance beam), and climbing wall. Pay a small price to play all day and available for parties. A place like that would work.
    Maybe a gym.
An arcade where you pay by the hour to play as many video games, pinball games, or console games that you want (Cincinnati has several of these; play all day for $8 and they sell used games for every system: Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, Nintendo, Genesis, Intellivision, X-Box, PlayStation 1-4, Game boy, PSP, N64, Wii).
You could do glow miniature golf.
    Go-carts.
A place to play billiards, airhockey, and ping pong.
Game store (board games, card games, RPGs).
    Comicbook store.
Maybe put in a small store to help people start new businesses (streamline the process of doing this).
    Lots of possibilities!

An online game only requires a computer network, which is the internet, through a personal computer or a video game console that can be linked into other players on the web. https://www.buyyoutubeviewsindia.in/youtube-marketing/
