Pratt & Whitney- North Haven

This 160 Acre site located in between U.S 5 and Quinnipiac River State Park was once home to Pratt & Whitney. Thousands of people a day would park in the now grass and tree covered lots to go to work. Closing fully just 10 years ago in 2002 nature has made major progress in taking over. The once lush green grass baseball fields now over grown... the basketball courts rusted... The parking lot is still scattered with old fork lifts as if people were coming back to work the next day. A shiny mint condition GMC fire engine still sits 10 years later in the Plants fire garage ready to go. Chemical and oil Garage opened ready for dumping down the long shoots within.

Readers Warning: Note that there is only one way in and out of the site, and that is down the plants road and over a bridge... so not an easy getaway. "No Trespassing" signs are clearly posted. If you do plan on going here I recommend parking elsewhere and walking in. Also beware there are alarms in the main building...VERY LOUD ALARMS!

  1. Any other pictures of that fire engine? Looks extremely shiny, how long has this place been shut down?

    1. The plant fully shut down in early 2002, though by the time 2002 came around many parts of the property were shut down years before. Also, I do have pictures of the fire engine and will try to get them up ASAP, so check back soon.

  2. How did you get into the area without being caught? Went today and within twenty minutes a security guard showed up. Have you gone into the room that has all of the fire extinguishers in it? It's right next to engine five and has a basement that leads into the plant.

In the basement just below the main entrance on the West Side there is a long tunnel that runs the entire lenght of the building ( over 1/4 mile ) there are several large and small rooms down there. The second floor was home to several large office areas as well as the Lunch room and the office of the Plant manager. That area would make for a perfect shelter for the homeless. Plenty of natural light and a good view if anyone was coming. Most f the contents of the building were sold by auctions except for the fire truck that was never used. management was either send the truck to another plant or donate it to the NHFD. Would not surprise me if they forgot all about it. If anyone goes in there, be sure to wear a surgical mask. the floors and ground below were loaded with chemicals that can be very
    dangerous.

  9. My father worked there as a Master Machinist and was on the plant fire dept. I have been there when they were open as part of family day tours. Hate to see it like this. The main hall underground was huge. Of course i was a kid
